Locked Outside

When Hiro got back from work in the late afternoon, he was eager to head back home. It was a first, normally he stayed out until he could barely stand on his own two feet. But he really wanted to take a shower and, why not, rest a little before heading out. As he reached his apartment however, he had an unpleasant surprise. His apartment was locked and he couldn’t find the key. It had to be somewhere as he wouldn’t have been able to lock the place otherwise. But he couldn’t find it anywhere. He kept turning the doorknob, pushing and pulling almost to the point of tearing it from the door itself. It was, without a doubt, locked. He just locked himself outside of his apartment.

This called for extreme measures and since he knew he was not strong enough to kick the door down, there was only one other solution. Not ask the caretaker, who would think of that? Hiro walked out of the building and circled around it. He went towards the emergency stairs. All he needed was to guess where his apartment was and get through the window. He jumped to reach the fire escape and climbed the stairs to the right floor. He had to look through the windows though, just to be sure. He finally saw the inside of his small apartment. Now, he only needed to open the window without breaking it. He never locked it, that he knew. There was no need when it was usually stuck. He cleaned the frame and tried to move it. He groaned from the effort. It really was stuck. But there was no way he would remain stuck outside of his own place. He would win over this window, even if he ultimately had to break it.
