Daniel put on his shirt and buttoned his uniform up. Looking in the mirror he couldn't help but think how odd he looked. There was an heir of unorganization, it just didn't feel like the uniform he had worn eight years before. This one was as equally important he knew but there was just something off about it. Drinking down the last remains of his coffee he headed out. The station wasn't too far from where he was temporarily staying and it hadn't taken too much time to get his assignments for the day. Scanning the list he felt a bit queasy as he noticed they had him on light duty to break him in. True he had never been in law enforcement before but he had seen things in places that most of the officers around here couldn't dream of in their worst nightmares. Nodding to a handful of officers on his way out he headed towards main st. Patrol. The word took on a whole new meaning when it came to a small town. The people passing nodded and smiled as he passed. A few women whispered but none...no none he counted actively tried taking him out. It was a new feeling to be not only safe but also in charge of maintaining the safe area. He spent the rest of his day checking in on calls and even one special alert to help an elderly lady with her door that she had gotten locked out of. Yes, this would take an adjustment. He was on the last hour of his shift for the day when a call came in for backup. He took off running towards the action and of course got lost. For the small bay area to be so tiny it surely had enough streets to keep anyone who didn't know their way busy. He felt the adrenaline pumping as he made his way towards what sounded like familiar commotion. Sirens wailed out to his left and he instinctively bolted towards it. That was when he saw the younger guy, stolen purse in hand running in the opposite direction. Daniel took off on a side street and tackled the guy who then immediately began wailing and throwing his hands up in the air. His fellow officers arrived and began laughing at how he had tackled the guy, apparently this place was used to a more civilized and calmer approach. His cheeks had reddened and he was ready to call it a day when another officer mentioned he needed to go to the hospital to get cleared. Daniel had laughed at first, but it was apparent that the guy wasn't joking. Per policy anytime there was physical contact a doctor's clearance had to be given before further work could occur. Apparently it was something to prevent the department from being sued. Daniel thought that was maybe the most useless things he had heard but he had simply nodded and taken the form to the hospital. Walking into the waiting room, form in hand, red cheeked and embarrassed beyond belief he stopped the first person walking by " excuse me m'am but where do policemen need to go to get cleared for duty? "

Her shift was almost over and she was exhausted. Charlotte had to help several doctors today, but she was mostly with Doctor Stellis who loved to give her a hard time, not in the mean way just in the way that he was always goofy to kind of keep their spirits up. Though when there were several rubber glove balloons on the floor in surgery, needless to say, she was worn out. She cleaned up after the last surgery and changed into new blue scrubs, no blood stains. She wasn't going to have to do much more but paperwork at this point but she still had to be in uniform. She was getting a headache from her hair being up for all the surgeries today, so she pulled it down so that the tension could be let out of her scalp. Shaking it out so that it fell in a few waves down her back she started to head for the nurses station to do her charts. She was just about there when she was stopped by a police officer. Needed clearing for duty, so much for not doing anything else today.
" Oh, Officer..." she glanced at his name badge, " Walker. I can help you with that." she was able to do the clearances so he wouldn't have to deal with a doctor. " Follow me please?" she took the form from him and lead him to an empty exam room where she could do his exam. " Have a seat, I just have to grab a couple things." she grabbed the cup that he would need to do his drug test, some gloves and things for herself, and a paper gown for him to put on. " I know its inconvienant but I have to have you change into this." she held the gown out in front of her. Her blue eyes found his and she blushed a little, he was handsome, and she was lonely so this was going to be a little embarassing. His haircut reminded her of the guys that were in the army that she had worked on during her tours, and she wondered vaguely if he too was former military. " Oh sorry, I'm Charlotte. Don't worry, I promise I won't give you a shot unless you need it." she grinned and nodded towards the door. " I'll give you some privacy to change, you can leave your skivvies on officer." she headed out the door and into the hall way to give him a few minutes.
The last officer she had to exam for this had hit on her the whole time, he was kind of a jerk, but that was no big deal, she could handle herself. He asked her out but she had flat out turned him down. He proceeded to pull her over the next day and try it again, so she agreed, just so she could get him off her back. It had been a disaster, and she had let him down quickly. He didn't bother to ask her out again because she hadn't slept with him. That made things much easier. She looked at her watch, it had been long enough. Tapping on the door she let herself back in. Taking his form she looked it over, " So, what exactly happened so that I know what all I have to exam you for?" she clicked the top of her pen so she could start writing notes. " Also a drug test is standard procedure so do you take an medications I need to be aware of?" she filled out the form as they went so she wouldn't have to do it all at the end.

Daniel had been around medics before in his tours. He was always in awe with their efficiency and knowledge. He was normally calm and collected during fire but he wasn't sure he'd ever have the mental strength to not only remain calm but save someone's life. He respected the medical field which was why his visit was just that much more embarassing. He had glanced around a bit noticing coughing kids and one guy who looked like he was about to pass out and here he was with a medical clearance form and a scraped elbow. When the nurse had said she could help him he nodded " Thank you ma'am I appreciate it." He began following her down the halls and through the doors until eventually she led him to an empty room. He nodded as she mentioned she needed to get a few things. Daniel sat down on the table awkwardly as the thin paper crackled beneath him. " Sure, no problem. I'm real sorry about this by the way, I didn't have a choice in the matter." He cleared his throat and tried to find something to focus on in the room, his eyes landing on the nurse. She was beautiful, very beautiful. She was the kind of beautiful that belonged on magazine covers and movie screens, he wouldn't have pegged her for this small town in a million years. Her blue eyes had landed on him and he felt his heart stop for a brief moment. It was just like in the movies when the two people fall in love and the world stops. He had always chalked that up to Hollywood romanticizing bull but as those stunning eyes met his he would have testified to whoever asked that yes, indeed the world has stopped for a moment. Then she had given him a practically see-through garment to wear and he felt that same heart start beating...rapidly. Managing a nod he took it from her and smiled a bit " Thank you miss Charlotte and I don't mind shots I've had so many of them it just doesn't faze me anymore. The new nurses fresh out of basic would always love to stick me, I was usually more calm than them. That part was certainly true. He had to get all of his immunizations for basic of course then boosters throughout the year for them all and then each tour brought a whole other round of shots. When she mentioned skivvies he couldn't help but grin a bit, wondering for a moment if she had been in the service before or if she had just picked it up. " Thank you ma'am."While she stepped out he changed into the paper sheet robe, trying his best to look as normal and modest as possible. It wasn't too long and she was back in the room. Shifting his weight a bit he cringed again as the paper crinkled. The story, of course she wanted the story. Daniel rubbed the back of his neck, redness already creeping into his cheeks. "Well I'm not on anything. I mean I was prescribed a nerve pill but I don't take them. I don't know if you all have my chart yet or not." He was hoping the answer to that was that they did not. The last thing he needed on this day was to have a gorgeous nurse find out all about his diagnosed PTSD which he still refuted. Though it wasn't like he honestly thought he had a shot with someone like her, especially with him sitting in a paper robe with a scrape on his arm and the story of the century. " For the incident.... I was on patrol, last hour of the shift and a call came in requesting back up. I attempted to make my way to the suspect and as I got closer I was able to identify him and the stolen ah...merchandise. I then proceeded to chase the suspect and when I was within reach I uh...I tackled him." Yep, he thought, that's me the great purse rescuer. He had heard the jokes already about signing him up on the local football team and that the owner of the purse...mrs.hattiesburg wanted to give him a kiss of thanks.

Doing an officer clearance was pretty standard stuff, she just had to make sure he was medically fit to go back to duty, which he seemed like he was just fine so this was going to take no time at all. Though she couldn't hide her curiosity as she looked at him. He was new to town, she was sure of that because she would have remembered a face like that around. " Oh its no problem at all officer, its my job, and im at the end of my shift anyway, so something like this will take me no time and we can get you back to work." she smiled sweetly at him, her blue eyes looking over him. He looked perfectly perfect...oh great she was blushing, she couldn't help herself. God, why was it so easy for her to blush? Her peaches and cream complexion made any embarassing moment that much worse for her. " well that have to make sure you weren't all hopped up on something that made you go crazy for a moment, so I get that." she grinned at him, feeling his eyes on her, which made her blush even more. " You aren't all hopped up on anything are you? Bath salts?" she laughed as she finished filling out a few things and turned back to look at his face. He had the look of a man that had seen a lot, and she wondered if maybe he had been in the military previously too, his haircut kind of gave that away, but the way her carried himself, and something behind his eyes really told her more. " Ah so you are soldier. I figured as much but I couldn't quite just come out and ask, some guys had a tough experience and don't want to talk about it." she tucked her hair out of her face as she looked at him. If he only knew that she was one of those that had a tough experience, but this wasn't the time or the place to talk about that kind of thing. " Well its guys like you that made our job easier." she smiled a conspirators smile, she had loved her time in the service, until that awful day where her world had changed forever. " It's no problem at all, I'll be right back." as she slipped out into the hallway she had a bit of a flashback, those days of getting soldiers quickly through the line so that they could get on to the next stage at basic, or before they had to head over seas. Some of those were hard because she knew she might never see them again, or see their names on the list of the fallen. She closed her eyes to hide the memories from herself. As she sat in front of him her eyes on the form as she filled out that he was on a nerve pill she looked back up at him and realized his gown was rather see through ,making her cheeks turn an even brighter shade of crimson. Nerve pills usually indicated some sort of ptsd or anxiety of some sort. She wondered again about his service. " You...tackled him?" she tried to hold back her laugh as she bit down on her lip looking up at him, her sapphire eyes twinkling with the laughter she was holding back. He tackled a guy, that was kind of cute actually. " Ok so pretty much a shop lifter and you kept him from getting away with it, thats pretty standard." she filled out the information then stood up to set the form down on the counter, pulling on some latex gloves." Alright lets check you over then, make sure you didn't actually hurt yourself." she moved to his side and took his hands in hers looking them over. " Few cuts and scrapes, I'd say you got a little road rash from the tackling." she looked up and was very close to his face so she looked down quickly so he wouldn't see that her face was permanantly red at this point. Holding his arms up she saw the scrape on his elbow, " Let me clean this one up, looks like there may be a little gravel in there." she grabbed some supplies and prepared to clean it. " This may sting a little ok?" she cleaned it up quickly and carefully pulling out a couple of tiny pieces of gravel. " Not to bad." She then bandaged the wound, wrapping some guaze around it since it was in an awkward place being right on his elbow. " No soreness or anything ?" she looked down at his legs not seeing anything but a small scrape that didn't even need a bandage. She took a step back and looked him over. " You really look fine." she smiled and grabbed the little cup. " Want to go take care of this in the bathroom? I know you know the drill with this. Just set it on this paper towel on the counter when you are done, ill tape it up and it will be ready to go and you should be good to go. As long as that passes you are clear for duty Officer Walker." not that she wanted that to be the end of their little conversation so she decided to be bold, " And when you are all cleaned up and I sign out I'll be off duty..if you wanted to maybe go get some coffee in the cafeteria and tell me more about this thief?" she was blushing brightly at that, and she figured Nate must be wearing off on her.

Daniel was never the kind of guy who would be smooth around a girl. While he wasn't hopeless he sure wasn't charming either, at least not in his mind. He always felt that his idea of charming and suave came off as cheesy and a bit dorky. It didn't help that he had spent most of his life with guys either. It also didn't help when the girl was exceedingly beautiful like the one standing in front of him. Her eyes were like nothing he had ever seen. When they met his it was like she pierced into his soul, pinning him to where he sat. When she kindly said that it wouldn't be a problem for her he nodded with a small smile, grateful that this at least wouldn't inconvenience her. Daniel had glanced at his shoes a minute, feeling every bit as awkward as the situation was. When he looked back up from his shoes he noticed she had a light scarlet tint of blush on her cheeks. Daniel raised his eyebrows slightly wondering what he missed that had caused her to blush. He hadn't thought he had said anything inappropriate but before he could think it over anymore she had made a small joke and he laughed lightly " No ma'am, not unless way too much coffee counts." Grinning he couldn't help but gaze at her again. The slight tint of blush had somehow made her more stunning. Daniel found himself pausing a bit, trying to look normal and positive that wasn't happening when she mentioned some soldiers having a hard time " Yea...no...it's...uh...not a problem..I mean.." certain he was failing at this point he pursed his lips a second before continuing "no, I don't mind." Yes, smooth he thought to himself as she thankfully began talking again. When she referenced being a soldier he grinned, relieved at least in the small camaraderie of two people who both served their countries " Ah well thank you for your service ma'am. Which branch did you serve under?" Thinking about her earlier comment that some people didn't appreciate their service being brought up he quickly added " if you uh...don't mind of course." Grinning he hoped she would at least find that amusing and not insensitive or something. As she stepped out he had changed and she had soon came back and began taking notes. He caught her questioning look about the nerve pills but was thankful when she glazed over it and asked about the tackling which of course had brought another rash of red across his cheeks " Yea, I uh...tackled him to the ground." When she summarized everything and made it sound a whole lot better than it had actually been he laughed a bit " You should be the white house press secretary with how well you made that sound. I almost feel proud." When she started to exam him he did as she asked, his hand in hers. She was close enough that he could smell the light scent of her perfume. Catching her eyes he felt the sensation of her boring into his soul again, stealing all of his ability to form a thought that wasn't of her. Clearing his throat he could only nod when she mentioned his cut may sting when she cleaned it. It was ridiculous of course to be so enamored with a girl he had just met but he couldn't help it. He was certain she had a boyfriend, there was no way a girl this gorgeous and obviously smart would be single too long " No ma'am, no soreness or pain." He took the cup from her and nodded, wishing more than anything that urinating in a cup wouldn't be the last thing she'd remember of him " Thank you again, I appreciate it". He had began to put his shirt back on, taking care to keep the thin sheet covering his boxers in place when she started talking again. Raising his eyebrows slightly he found himself grinning, maybe she didn't have a boyfriend after all. " I'd love to miss Charlotte." He felt his heart beat just a bit quicker knowing he'd be not only seeing her again but that she wanted to see him too. Finishing up with his med exam he washed up and tried to straighten his uniform up. Walking towards the nurses station he cleared his throat and leaned against the wall opposite the door waiting patiently.
